Pu’er (普洱) is located in the southwestern part of Yunnan Province, on the southwestern edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Pu’er (普洱) has a long history. During the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Yizhou Prefecture (益州郡). In the Tang Dynasty, the Nanzhao Kingdom (南诏国) established the “Burideng” (步日赕). It began to be called “Pu’er” (普洱) during the Wanli years of the Ming Dynasty. Pu’er is the hometown of Pu’er tea and has a long history of tea culture and the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It was once an important route for the tea and salt trade in ancient southern Yunnan and a significant section of the Southern Silk Road.
