I. Visa-Free Policy
From November 30, 2024, to December 31, 2025, Japanese citizens holding ordinary passports are eligible for a visa-free entry to China for short-term stays (not exceeding 15 days). This policy applies to purposes such as tourism, business, and visiting relatives or friends.
II. Situations Requiring a Visa
If the stay exceeds 15 days, or if the purpose of entry is outside the scope of the visa-free policy (such as work or study), Japanese citizens must apply for the corresponding type of visa in advance.
III. Visa Types and Application Process
- Tourist Visa (L Visa): For short-term tourism with a maximum stay of 30 days.
- Business Visa (M Visa): For business activities with a maximum stay of 180 days.
- Visiting Relatives/Friends Visa (Q Visa): For visiting relatives or friends with a maximum stay of 180 days.
- Work Visa (Z Visa): Requires a work permit and invitation letter.
- Study Visa (X Visa): Requires an admission notice and invitation letter from a school.
Application Process
- Online Appointment: Schedule an appointment through the website of the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (www.visaforchina.org) or the website of the Chinese Embassy in Japan (中国驻日本大使馆).
- Prepare Materials: Including a valid passport, visa application form, recent color photo (48mm × 33mm), itinerary, or invitation letter, etc.
- Submit Application: Submit the materials at the Chinese Embassy in Japan (中国驻日本大使馆) or the visa application center according to the scheduled time.
- Pay Fees: Visa fees vary depending on the type and duration of stay.
- Collect Visa: Regular applications usually take 5 working days, while expedited applications can be completed within 3 working days.
IV. Notes
- Material Authenticity: All materials must be genuine and complete; otherwise, it may lead to visa rejection.
- Visa Extension: If an extension of stay is needed, it can be applied for at the Chinese public security department after entry.
- Visa-Free Limitations: The visa-free policy is only applicable for short-term stays. A visa is required if the stay exceeds 15 days.

Yes. You can save your online visa application wherever you see the "Save & Exit" icon. To login again and complete your application, you will require your unique "Visa Application Id". This number will have been sent to the email address that you supplied in your application security details.
Throughout the online form we have added "More Info" icons to some questions that might require further guidance.
If you didn't submit your application finally you can do the change. After submitting the application you can't change it.
All date fields in our forms are set up in the following format: dd/mm/yyyy (for example 21/08/2011).
