 Types of Visas and Applicable Purposes

1. Tourist Visa (L Visa)

  • Purpose: For short-term tourism, family visits, and other private affairs. The maximum stay period is 90 days.

2. Business Visa (M Visa)

  • Purpose: For business visits, trade negotiations, etc. The stay period can be extended up to 180 days, and multiple-entry visas can be valid for up to 10 years.

3. Work Visa (Z Visa)

  • Purpose: For individuals working in China. A work permit and relevant invitation letter are required.

4. Study Visa (X Visa)

  • Purpose: For students, advanced studies, or internships in China. An admission letter from a Chinese school is required.

5. Transit Visa (G Visa)

  • Purpose: For individuals transiting through China to a third country. The maximum stay period is 240 hours.

6. Journalist Visa (J Visa)

  • Purpose: For foreign resident journalists (J1) and temporary foreign journalists (J2) visiting China for reporting.

7. Private Affairs Visa (S Visa)

  • Purpose: For spouses, parents, children, and other relatives of foreigners residing in China for work or study.

II. Visa Application Process

1. Online Application

  • Process: Complete the visa application form on the Chinese Online Visa Application System (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) and print the confirmation page.

2. Prepare Materials

  • Required Documents:
    • Passport valid for at least six months.
    • Recent color passport-sized photo (48mm×33mm).
    • Supporting documents based on the visa type, such as invitation letters, itineraries, work permits, etc.

3. Submit Application

  • Ordinary Passport Holders: Submit the application at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center.
  • Diplomatic and Service Passport Holders: Submit the application directly to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in India.

4. Payment of Fees

  • Tourist Visa: 2900 INR (single entry).
  • Business Visa: 4400 INR (double entry).
  • Multiple-Entry Visa: 5900 INR (multiple entries within six months).

5. Collect Visa

  • Normal Processing Time: 3 working days.
  • Expedited Service: Available within 1-2 working days at an additional cost.

III. Visa-Free Policies

1. Transit Visa-Free

  • Policy: Indian citizens transiting through China to a third country can enter visa-free through 24 open ports in China, with a maximum stay of 240 hours.

2. Other Visa-Free Policies

  • Note: There is no mutual visa-free agreement between India and China. Indian citizens must obtain a visa in advance.

  • A clear photo of the information page of your passport and the original passport, valid for more than 6 months from the date of application, with at least one blank visa page.
  • If you are applying for a one-year multiple-entry visa, your passport must be valid for at least 15 months from the date of application.
  • If you hold dual or multiple nationalities, you must provide the original passports of all valid nationalities.
  • Recent, front-facing, color photo (white background), without a hat.
  • If your accompanying person(s) on this visa application is/are using the same passport, please also prepare photos of the accompanying person(s).

Foreigners holding ordinary passports from visa-exempt countries cannot use the fast-track lane. Currently, only foreigners holding a foreign passport and a permanent residence permit, an electronic passport, or a residence permit valid for more than six months are eligible to use the fast-track lane.

If a foreigner from a visa-exempt country loses their passport after entry and the replacement document is not an ordinary passport, they must obtain a stay permit from the local public security exit-entry administration and depart within the validity period of the stay permit.
